Tara Brown is 19 years old and studies Philosophy and Politics at Manchester University. She has been a member of the youth media charity Headliners since 2002 and a peer trainer with them for about two years, training other young people in journalism skills and personal development. She is also part of the CYB (Children and Youth Board) press team in 2004-5, which followed the CYB’s involvement in helping to appoint the current UK Children’s Commission. The young people at Headliners have done many stories around the negative portrayal of young people in the media. What our young people have to say affects everybody – our motto is ‘News by Young People for Everyone.’ We do not simply produce news by young people for other young people to read. Our aim as an organization is to promote the voice of young people to everyone. |
