Does Obama want to stop the itemized tax deduction of all charitable donations to churches?

If limits are placed on high income people will they still contribute as much to a church? Is not money from high income individuals worth as much to a church as if it came from low income individuals?

He has wanted that for a long time now.

Probably not. He’s a churchgoer himself and a politician. It would be political suicide.

I haven’t heard that he has. I do know that the government is thinking about stopping itemized deductions of mortgage interest. That’s going to hurt me a lot more than any sort of charitable deduction.

No. Here is a good article on it. http://www.christianitytoday.com/yc/2009/marapr/obamaproposeslimits.html

He wants to set limits for charitable deductions for high income people back to the limits that were placed there during the first Bush Administration in 1990.
